Troy and I were in a C172 just off shore of the Big Island of Hawaii watching lava pour into the ocean. We watched the video tape later: Bruce, "From 500 feet off the ocean," Troy, "Well really 200 feet." Short silence. Then there is the increased noise of added power followed by the nose pitching up to gain altitude. We weren't in a spiral dive ready to splash down but Troy did get my attention.
